How To Manage Excessive Oily Skin

A lot of people suffer from excessive oily skin, and struggle to deal with it.  First off. Let me just say, you cannot get rid of oily skin.  It's a part of who you are, and you can thank the microscopic sebaceous gland, hidden beneath the surface of the skin, for your curse or blessing, what ever you
want to call it.  Sebaceous glands produce sebum, the fatty oil that drives you nuts! The area with the most oil-producing ability is the one most crowded with sebaceous glands, like the T-zone (forehead, nose and chin). You might not be able to get rid of your oily skin, but you can sure keep it under control.  With the right products and techniques, you can keep the oil at bay and keep your makeup looking fresh.

Start off with the right skin care products.  There are many products on the market that will help in reducing oil production.  You want to use a gentle cleanser, toner and moisturizer designed for oily skin, twice a day.  An active ingredient you should look for in your skin care is, Glycolic Acid, which is a temporary oil reducer, and helps cut through the surface oils and clean out the pores. However before going out and buying any products, I suggest you consult a dermatologist first, as some ingredients are not recommended to be used together and can worsen the problem. Oil controlling/pore cleansing masks is a great way to keep oil under control for several days. One  of my favourite masks is the Artistry  Pore Cleansing Mask  Which helps regulate surface oils, unclogs pores,  draws out excess oil to help control oil and shine. You can use this 1-3 times a week.

So how do you control oily skin when wearing makeup?  There are a couple of things you can do.  Before applying foundation, use a mattifying gel/face primer in the areas most needed, like our Camera Ready Foundation Primer. Camera Ready is what you need to keep your makeup in place ALL day.  The most important complexion product.  Apply a small amount to clean skin.  Minimizes the appearance of fine lines and pores, smoothes skin texture, leaving a matte silky smooth finish and keeps foundation in place, great for all skin types.

After applying your makeup, you want to set it with a powder, this will further absorb any oil and shine, and I recommend our Translucent Blotting Powder. This outstanding powder can be used alone for weightless oil control or over foundation to set makeup. Shine no more with this invisible, lightweight, oil blotting powder. Apply to areas of face that are prone to shine, for a satin finish, without cakiness.  For further protection use a setting spray to keep your makeup from moving or fading.  I like the Urban Decay All Nighter setting spray, it has temperature Control Technology prevents makeup from a meltdown when it's warm and avoids makeup dehydration and cracking when it’s cold. All Nighter works expertly on all skin types and prevents loss of color, melting, sliding, caking, cracking, excess shininess, fading blush, eye shadow, and lip color disappearance. And it's formulated to resist moisture.  As the day goes on, oil might start to seep through, that is when blotting sheets come in very handy.  They are thin pieces of tissue like paper that absorbs the oil but leaves the pigment of your makeup in place. You can find these at most drug stores, just pop a pack into your bag and you are good to go!
