DIY Tropical Body Scrub

Today we will be making a tropical body scrub; this is a great exfoliator to get rid of dry patchy skin, especially areas prone to dryness such as hand, feet, elbows and knees. This is a simple recipe  and you can find all of these ingredients in your very own kitchen. So let`s get  started!

You will need the following

Unrefined coconut oil (refined coconut oil has been processed to remove impurities and the natural smell of the coconut, and for this recipe we want all  of the goodness and nutritional value of the coconut oil as well as the pleasant  tropical smell of coconuts!) You will also need honey, white granulated sugar,  if you have sensitive skin use brown sugar which is more gentler. A bowl and  spoon for mixing.

In a bowl, put one tablespoon of honey, then add desired amount of sugar, more or less depending on desired consistency. I like mine to be rich and full of granules.  Next add about a teaspoon of coconut oil.  Coconut oil  melt at 76 °F  (24 °C) I prefer to make this recipe when the coconut oil is more of a soft solid, makes this scrub more creamier.  If your coconut oil has melted into a liquid, simply store it in the fridge for a while until it becomes a solid again.

Mix all ingredients together until well combined and creamy and voila! you have a nice tropical body scrub.  You can use this on dry skin then rinse with warm water, which is my preferred method, or you can moisten your skin first then use  the scrub on desired areas then rinse with warm water. I love using this on my  hands for to keep them soft and supple.

THE  BENEFITS:
Honey- helps to keep skin hydrated, fresh and prevents  drying. Honey's natural antioxidant and anti-microbial properties, helps to  protect the skin from the damage of the sun`s rays and supports the skins ability  to rejuvenate and refresh depleted skin, leaving it  feeling silky and soft.

Coconut oil- is super-moisturizing for repairing  damaged skin,  prevents dryness and flaking of skin, can also help in preventing  premature aging and degenerative diseases due to its antioxidant properties.

Sugar-  is alpha-hydroxy rich to give you glowing skin. can be very healing for people with skin conditions such as psoriasis or eczema. Sugar exfoliates the skin to remove dead skin cells and deep cleans it.

I have eczema on my right hand and this particular combination has made a wonderful difference in the look and feel of it. Daily use has helped my eczema disappear faster and leaves my skin looking smoother with less scaring from constant scratching.

STORAGE:
I recommend  making this scrub as needed; otherwise you can make a big batch and store it in  the fridge. Remember, it will turn into a hard solid due to the coconut oil. You  can also store it at room temperature in a cabinet, depending on how warm or  cool your home is, your scrub will either become more liquid or stay as a soft  creamy solid, just remember to give it a quick stir before using to combine the  ingredients as they may separate over time. Large batches can last you up to a  week.
